PhUV?
The battle to create discount cars for developing economies has been heating up as of late, and the Philippines market is evidently no different. The above vehicle, the Philippine Utility Vehicle (PhUV) is just such a vehicle, and it was designed with a price point of just $7500 in mind.
The Philippines has a modest auto industry, and in truth it’s a small market, so any investments made to create a market-specific vehicle is likely to be relatively nominal. In this case, the PhUV would likely compete as much against public transportation as it would other automobiles.
In any case, the prototype seen here features a 2.1-liter diesel powerplant and a chassis from China, though there is quite a bit of local content underneath its awkward-yet-purposeful body.
