HIGH SPEED SENTENCE IN THAMES

Timothy Jonathan Brady, aged 33, of Earls Crescent, Harrow, Middlesex, was sentenced yesterday to 10 weeks imprisonment. He has been banned from driving for three years and will have to take an extended driving test at the end of his disqualification.
Timothy was caught earlier this year doing 172 mph in a Porsche Turbo and according to Inspector Martin Percival of the Thames Valley Police, "People who take extreme and unnecessary risk will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law as we have seen today. Thames Valley Police will continue to proactively prosecute any road user that causes danger to others, particularly driving at high speeds.
"I hope that today’s conviction will prove to be a sufficient deterrent to those who think they can follow in the wake of those who travel at excessive and dangerous speeds. 172 mph is 77 metres per second. At that speed the car’s minimum braking distance would be 453 metres. To put that into context, the average duration of a single blink of the eye is 0.3 seconds, during which time the car would have travelled 23 metres (five car lengths).”
