HONDA CANS THE HYBRID AND WILL INTRODUCE A DIESEL IN '09

Honda Motor Co will not introduce a hybrid model of the Accord when the popular sedan undergoes a full design change in autumn for the North American market, the Nihon Keizai Shimbun reported.

The automaker has decided to change its plan to produce hybrid models in the Accord series, and will instead release gasoline-electric versions only of the Civic and another subcompact currently under development, it said.

Midsize and large vehicles such as the Accord will be equipped with a new type of clean diesel engine that is slated to be introduced in 2009.
